At first glance, Aspen likely looks like any other yellow Labrador retriever. Brown eyes gazing, she offers a full body wag and a slew of sloppy kisses as soon as anyone comes near.

But don’t be fooled by her friendly demeanor this perky pooch is a formidable weapon, to termites and other home infesting pests that is. Aspen is what’s know as a termite detection canine, a dog trained in the art of finding termites through scent within the walls of your home before the damage is apparent or visible to the eye of a human inspector.

A pest control inspector does not have x-ray eyes. He can’t see through walls. But a dog can sniff through walls. And that’s just what Aspen does. Spurred on by the verbal command to seek, she searches the house, smelling every crack and crevice.
