CAUTION! Under the right conditions, any dog will bite!

Leave stray dogs alone. Even the cutest stray dogs that are running loose in your neighborhood, could bite. Some are pets that have gotten out of their houses or yards. Stray dogs are usually scared, hungry, thirsty, and lonely.

It sounds like fun to stop and play with a stray, but you could get bitten. Here’s what you should do if you are approached be a stray dog:

  1. Be a pole. Stand still. Hold your arms close to your side and don’t move. You are making body in the shape of a pole. Do not run away and don’t move your arms. When the dog goes, back up slowly so you can keep an eye on him.
  2. Act like a stone. If you are lying down, or have been knocked down by a dog, cover your face, keep your legs together and pull up your knees up. You are making your body into the shape of a stone. Don’t move. When the dog is gone, let an adult know. For information about Dog Safety Seminars for Kids, visit: www.Bpawsitive.com
